Traveling Stories
Traveling Stories is a non-profit that allows volunteers to host one-on-one weekly video calls with children entering K through 2nd grade to read together and chat about books. They also have a Virtual Help Desk role which involves volunteers who will monitor sessions and provide minimal assistance to readers or volunteers as needed via email.

Achillea Peer
Achillea, based at Hunter College High School in NYC, is a peer tutoring organization collaborating with foster care agencies and nonprofits. Our mission is to empower children in foster care nationwide by providing one-on-one peer tutoring relationships. Students in foster care, discharged, or receiving preventative services can sign up for dedicated high school tutors in all subjects. We believe every child deserves access to an excellent education, and Achillea is committed to providing that opportunity.

7 Cups is an on-demand emotional health service and online therapy provider. Our bridging technology anonymously & securely connects real people to real listeners in one-on-one chat. Anyone who wants to talk about whatever is on their mind can quickly reach out to a trained, compassionate listener through our network. We have hundreds of listeners who come from all walks of life and have diverse experiences. Volunteer to be a trained listener for other people. This can also be a great addition to your resume.

Night To Shine (Tri-Valley)
Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, for people with special needs aged 14 and older. This event is 100% volunteer led!

Crisis Text Line
Crisis Text Line is the free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis in the United States. The service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who work remotely—anywhere with a computer and secure internet connection works.

Crisis Counselors answer texts from people in crisis, bringing them from a hot moment to a cool calm through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.

Bookshare
Contribute your skills and passions to help people with print disabilities read. From scanning and proofreading, to describing images, to providing support for Bookshare® teachers and families.

American Red Cross
Volunteer opportunities include supporting blood donations and delivering much-needed services to your community. We even have a wide variety of remote (work-from-home) opportunities available.

Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organisations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable people.

LibriVox Audiobooks
LibriVox volunteers read and record chapters of books in the public domain (books no longer under copyright) in the USA*, and make them available for free on the Internet. Practically, this means we record books published 95 full years ago or longer. All our recordings (including yours, if you volunteer for us) are also donated into the public domain.

Project Gutenberg
Distributed Proofreaders provides a web-based method to ease the conversion of Public Domain books into e-books. By dividing the workload into individual pages, many volunteers can work on a book at the same time, which significantly speeds up the creation process.

Serve as a nonpartisan Election Protection volunteer. This is a "get out the vote" effort recommended by Common Cause, League of Women Voters, and other non-partisan organizations.
