Reading Together

Traveling Stories is a non-profit that allows volunteers to host one-on-one weekly video calls with children entering K through 2nd grade to read together and chat about books. They also have a Virtual Help Desk role which involves volunteers who will monitor sessions and provide minimal assistance to readers or volunteers as needed via email.

Achillea, based at Hunter College High School in NYC, is a peer tutoring organization collaborating with foster care agencies and nonprofits. Our mission is to empower children in foster care nationwide by providing one-on-one peer tutoring relationships. Students in foster care, discharged, or receiving preventative services can sign up for dedicated high school tutors in all subjects. We believe every child deserves access to an excellent education, and Achillea is committed to providing that opportunity.

Anyone who wants to talk about whatever is on their mind can quickly reach out to a trained, compassionate listener through our network. Crisis Text Line is the free, 24/7 text line for people in crisis in the United States. The service is powered by volunteer Crisis Counselors who work remotely—anywhere with a computer and secure internet connection works.

Crisis Counselors answer texts from people in crisis, bringing them from a hot moment to a cool calm through active listening, collaborative problem solving, and safety planning.
